Forgetting Deleting Forgiving

These three words seem to have something in common, they all end up in a place that may not exist, or that we do not want to have nearby…. Perhaps for an artist, a person who dedicates many hours to drawing, to building from what does not exist, or building through what she sees or does not see, erasing is something everyday, an action that allows us to start again, that on paper, of course.

There is something similar between erasing and forgetting, both make the object we are dealing with disappear… but forgetting is so abstract, can it really be forgotten in a conscious way? The memory is always there, for when we want to rescue that specific moment, it is so fragile, and I insist abstract.

Maybe forgive is the other word/action that helps the previous two, that’s why I like them together, they become more accessible, more homemade.

This Suite of engravings is a series of erased drawings, where the action of making/drawing and erasing to redo and erase again and so on as far as one decides is done on the same plate, creating an image of memories, of erased marks, giving rise to a new image.

Everything comes from reviewing, searching in the numerous notebooks I have of notes where images, drawings, notes, ideas are piled up. It is a memorandum of various routes as a warehouse of projects, what happens is that like so many things some were left there, unintentionally and revising, which I often do, I was surprised by some drawings that I still find interesting, to which the moment has passed, but they are still there as if waiting, creating an uncomfortable feeling, of work not done, unsolved…

So I decided to draw them again to erase them, as I mentioned before repeating the action on itself, creating a common space, they find their place, and I get a new space, that’s what these erased drawings are about, erasing and forgetting.
